Privacy Policy I AgreeWelcome to the treatment of intermittent negative pressure (-IVT-) with the VACUSPORT device for orthopaedics, traumatology, rehabilitation and sports medicine.
It is our mission to optimise and to accelerate regeneration and rehabilitation in competitive and recreational sports with the help of this innovative method. Thus we contribute to an increased physical performance, to a significant reduction of breaks from training due to injuries and to an even greater improvement of health through sports and overall health in general. If you would like to know which further indications exist for the intermittent negative pressure treatment (-IVT-).
The intermittent negative pressure treatment with the VACUSPORT-device is based on the medical requirements of manned space travel. As is commonly known, this takes place in zero gravity and leads to orthostatic complications for astronauts. This situation could even make space travel impossible. The solution to this problem was developed in the sixties at the German Institute for Space Medicine (Institut für Weltraummedizin) of the German Aerospace Centre (DLR, Deutsche Luft- und Raumfahrtgesellschaft) in Cologne. The result is the so-called LBNPD (Lower Body Negative Pressure Device). The physiological principle is the impinging of the lower part of the body with physical permanent negative pressure. This leads to a desired capillary dilatation and hence prevents the orthostatic complications.
In 1999 the development of the intermittent version of the LBNPD began as a Neurolab research project at the Institute for Space Medicine of the DLR.
The patented VACUSPORT-device is comprised of a cylindrical body (tube) made of aluminium. The patient lies on his/her back. The tube encloses the legs and the lower part of the body. A lens seals the air chamber at the height of the navel.
For the treatment the VACUSPORT-device generates negative pressure (vacuum) in rhythmic intervals. The impinging with negative pressure takes place intermittently and alternately in comparison with the normal atmospheric pressure.
